Priming
As a breeder, you would like to have a fast and even growth of your crop with high quality products as a result. However, seeds do have dormancy which ensures that seeds only germinate under certain circumstances. Priming has been developed to ensure one can harvest in time and without any delay caused by dormancy. Priming interrupts the dormancy phase and as a result the seeds will germinate earlier and more uniform.
Priming service is offered at both locations in The Netherlands and Italy, and takes place in our laboratories. During the priming treatment, water, minerals and fertilizers can be added which are absorbed by the seeds. After the Priming treatment the seeds are dried and tested for their germination characteristics. After satisfactory test results the seeds will be returned to the customer. Germination tests are performed before and after each treatment, to ensure optimum germination percentages.
Priming causes seeds to germinate faster and more uniform, by reducing the limitations of photo- and thermodormancy.
The goal of this treatment is to improve the germination characteristics of the seeds. After the ‘EasyPrime’ treatment, seeds will germinate faster and more uniform. Also the number of abnormal seeds will be decreased. ‘EasyPrime’ is offered for different types of crops, for example: tomato, pepper, eggplant, melon and leek.
‘EasyDormex’ aims to interrupt the dormancy of the seeds. Examples are lettuce and endive: these crops suffer from photo- and thermodormancy. ‘EasyDormex’ reduces these limitations.
